Overview: The team is hired to convince/coerce/force several targets to delay production of Horizon’s new comlink model in LA, Las Vegas, and Seattle.
The Team is contacted by Ganef and fixed with a Johnson who wants to meet in the San Fernando Valley, in an under construction store front. Mr. Johnson turns out to be a dapperly dressed troll, and he explains the job: Horizon’s new comlink’s go-to-market date must be delayed by at least two weeks. His team’s identified 6 key players in three cities that could accomplish such a task… if they were compromised. The team’s job is to compromise at least one of them at each location. But, they can’t just kill them! Doing so would trigger a security audit, and most likely rush the product to market, instead.
The team does some legwork, and reviews the dossiers on each of their potential targets. The first trip is to Vegas, a short two hour drive away. Once there, they’re contacted by a local runner who tells them that they’re going to ‘take out’ one of the targets. The team needs to work fast. They track down Stephen Leppert, an ambitious but woefully ‘average’ middle manager for a local engineering firm, and try to convince him of three things: 1: His life may be in danger, and he needs to seek assistance, 2: They’re really with Renraku, and they want to extract him for a better job, and 3: If he wants that job, he’d better mis-files some papers to throw out a false trail for the internal investigators! While Carbon Copy’s not terribly convincing, Woodstock’s assistance (under the influence of Mr. Mojo Rising) seems to do the trick. They drop off Leppert fairly confident that he’ll follow their instructions.
