Campaign Log: 2061-2064 Shadowrun

It’s years later and I still haven’t finished updating the log through the end of the campaign (Mid 2064), but I figure I’d better get the darn thing up, or I’ll never do it… Hopefully I can sit down and add some content after the new site goes live.

Entries appear in reverse order, from newest to oldest.

  • The team is hired to extract some data and an unwilling ‘package’ for the Children of the Dragon in Denver.

August 2062 – “APB” – Redmond Barrens, Seattle

  • The team intercepts a transmission from the Redmond barrens calling for assistance… the offer is 100,000.00 a piece to anyone willing to blast their way past several squads of Renraku troopers to rescue the target.
  • After a quick trip to the Barrens, they fight their way past several corporate response squads to pull out a man and his bodyguards (or what’s left of them) from a meet gone bad. To the runner’s shock and surprise the man is none other than Miles Lanier, head of Internal Security for Novatech. After the very high profile extraction, the team departs with assurances from Lanier that they are owed a favor.

July 2062 – “Knowledge” – Shasta, Cal Free State
(From the Shadowrun Module “Survival of the Fittest”)

  • The team (Billy Boy, Cleanslate, Sureshot, D.C. and Fade) is contacted by a new fixer that they have never dealt with before, about a datasteal to take place in Northern Cal. Free State. The job is simple, break into a facility and liberate it of some data… The facility however, happens to be the Shasta Lodge, home of  Hestaby (a Great Western Dragon). Based on the fixer’s rep, however, they take the job.
  • After a leisurely drive to Call Free, and some scouting on the lodge, the team decides to make their attempt in broad daylight, hoping that the element of surprise (and the fact that the dragon won’t be there) will help them out. They manage to get inside, get the data, and get away relatively unscathed.

  • Fade exits party.
June 2062 – “Old Friends and the Price of Fame”  – Sydney, Australia
    • The team is contacted by an unknown Johnson who wishes to meet to discuss a very lucrative run. The meet takes place in ‘Hell’, the secure basement of Dante’s Inferno. The team (Billy Boy, Cleanslate, Sureshot, D.C. and Fade) arrives to find the familiar face of Hans Cliber smiling at them from across the negotiating table. Cliber knows that Wu is still alive, and that the runners helped him escape. He wants two things: a) the location of Wu, if they know it. And b) to help him disappear into the shadows as well. He explains that they will be filming in Australia in the coming weeks, and that they are to extract him from there. The team thinks it over and accepts the job.
    • The team arrives in Australia just as the shooting schedule begins. After a few days of tailing Hagen and his crew, they decide to make a move in the evening, after shooting has completed for the day. The team infiltrates his hotel room, and waits for Hagen and his security detail to arrive. After a short (but difficult)  struggle, Hagen’s security is dealt with, and the team escapes via a heli-pad, adjacent to the penthouse. When they are a sufficient distance from Sydney, they blow the helicopter with C-4, and escape the area via ground transportation.
    • They take a chartered cargo flight out of Tasmania, and drop Hagen and his entourage off in Singapore. They then return to Seattle.
April 2062 – “Gimme Liberty – Part III: The Big Easy”  – New Orleans, CAS
(Loosely based on the Shadowrun Module “Wake of the Comet” run “The Price of Liberty”)
    • The team arrives in New Orleans to make the drop. Upon arrival, and delivery, they find out that the extracted scientist is actually their employer. Not only that, but he has one more job for them if they are willing to wait a few days. The team spends 3 days in the Big Easy waiting for contact.
    • The next step for them is pretty simple, on the outside. Take the data that the scientist has managed to smuggle out with him, and help him deliver it to a buyer. The team heads off into the bayou with a chipcase to  make the drop. While they are there, the buyer throws a monkey-wrench into the plan: The briefcase full of cash is theirs for the taking, if only they will provide him with their employers location. The team sticks to their principals, and refuse.
    • After dropping the cash off to an intermediary, and taking their payment, the team returns to Seattle.
April 2062 – “Gimme Liberty – Part II: Into The Valley”  – San Jose, Cal Free State
(Loosely based on the Shadowrun Module “Wake of the Comet” run “The Price of Liberty”)
    • The team receives the second half of their assignment not 24 hours after they return to Seattle. The Johnson made a drop to a secure LTG at Shadowland with the details. They must get to Silicon Valley, and extract a scientist from a secure facility. Once they have him, they must deliver him to New Orleans by 5pm on Fat Tuesday… which is only 72 hours away.
    • The team makes their way to Silicon Valley by T-bird, and spends a few precious hours doing site recon, with assistance from Joe Pistone (who is on Matrix overwatch for the run), They decide that their best line of attack is straight over the wall.
    • The team breaches the facility at 18:00hrs, and makes their way to the target without being spotted. While they are collecting the scientist for pickup, however, they’re made. What follows is a running gunfight to the roof, and escape back over the wall by a hastily set up zip-line. The team shakes off pursuit and heads back into the desert for pickup, and extraction to the Big Easy.
April 2062 – “Gimme Liberty – Part I: Up The Well”  – Apollo Station, L.O.E.
(Loosely based on the Shadowrun Module “Wake of the Comet” run “The Price of Liberty”)
    • The team is contacted via their normal fixer for a job from an unknown party. Team meets the new Johnson (whom they not-so-affectionately dub ‘the Ice Queen’) and accept a mission to infiltrate the Ares Apollo space station, and make modifications to the main communications array onboard within the next 24 hours. The team accepts, and departs the next morning for Cape Canaveral. Aside from a close call between Wyatt and security, the team departs for the Apollo with no incidents.
    • Once on board the Apollo station, the team meets their contact and finds out the rest of the rest of the story. They need to spacewalk to the communications array, make the modifications, and return… not only that, but security on Apollo is tight. With no time for their standard recon, the team springs into action with a plan – Billy Boy and Cleanslate will impersonate maintenance personel, while Wyatt and Fade provide a minor distraction for security. The plan is thrown into disarray when Cleanslate is made on her way to the airlock, but in a fantastic string of luck, Billy Boy manages to pull of the spacewalk and modifications on his own.
    • The team lies low for a few hours, and returns to Earth on the next shuttle.
March 2062 – “Project: Quicksilver”  – Denver, UCAS Sector
(Loosely based on the Origins Shadowrun Tournament run “Project: Quicksilver Lightning”)
    • Billy Boy, Cleanslate, Sureshot, and Fade are contacted by a local Fixer in Denver who sets them up with a meet. The Johnson hires them to infiltrate a small, private facility, penetrate the secure laboratories and steal a prototype and related data files, as well as implanting a computer program that will burn all records of the project from the mainframe’s memory. The team accepts the job, and, except for a minor slipup, escapes with the prototype. Cleanslate is injured, and while they are resting before the delivery, the prototype ‘activates’, and injects her with something… She seems unaffected, and the team heads to the meet with the Johnson.
    • The Johnson explains to them that he contracted them for two things: the data, and the prototype. Since the prototype is now inside Cleanslate, they must remove it from her… and the only way to do that is to get the man that designed the ‘ware to do the job. The team tracks him to a house in the Shiwaise protected suburbs, and (after a brief altercation with the police) kidnaps him.
    • The team retreats to UCAS sector’s Denver General Hospital, where the Johnson has acquired access to a bioware facility so that the good Doctor can remove his prototype. Just as the Doctor is getting started, however, several teams of company men infiltrate the hospital, and attack. The team repels some of the assailants, and escapes with the Doctor and the Johnson intact. The Johnson says that he knows one more place that they can go… the Aztechnology Corporate enclave in the Aztech sector of Denver.
    • As the team is headed towards the border, however, they are attacked by another strike team. Their limousine is toast, and Billy Boy and Sureshot fight off the first wave of attackers, and ‘commandeer’ a vehicle to escape. They take the Doctor, and Cleanslate with them. They pick up Fade on the way to the Warrens, where they’ve heard there is a street doc with the facilities necessary to remove the prototype.
    • They arrive at the Street Doc’s, and the procedure begins. Another Shiawise team attacks, but the team  fights them off with the help of an Aztech team that arrives half way through the fight. The prototype is successfully removed, and the team hands it (and the Doctor) over for their payment.
    • The Team returns to Seattle.
    • Billy Boy begins to receive strange ‘prank’ phone calls that pick up to dead air.
January 2062 – “Dirty Water”  – Seattle (Renton), UCAS
    • Billy Boy, Cleanslate, and Sureshot are contracted by St. John to infiltrate a moderately secure facility to extract samples of a genetically engineered biomass designed to combat pollution. The facility is located in Renton, and is not nearly as secure as they thought. They get to the cold storage room only to find out that the  target has been moved to another facility.
    • The second facility is in Northern Seattle downtown. The team is joined by Fade. must make it to the 15th floor of a high-rise, and track down the package. After some recon the team acquires two company badges, and infiltrates the building. Once they make it to the 15th floor they discover that something is wrong… another team is in the process of getting away with the target! A short firefight follows as the rival team leaps to a waiting helicopter. Fade makes the leap as well, just as the copter pulls away. The team finds her a few minutes later lying unconscious on a rooftop after a 40 foot fall. She does not have the package.
    • Strangely, St. John doesn’t have a problem with the results of the run, and even commends them on their performance.
    December 2061 – “A Friend of a Friend”  – Seattle (Redmond), UCAS
(Loosely based on the SR Missions run “A Fork in Fate’s Path”)
    • Billy Boy receives a disturbing call in the middle of the night from Jose Sanchez, son of his old fixer, Juan Sanchez. It seems that a friend of Jose is in trouble, and he needs help. Juan’s niece has been kidnapped in an attempt to put leverage on her father (a researcher for a large corp). The team, consisting of Billy Boy, Taurus, Big Mac, and Verde, is hired to find her, and rescue her so that he may be extracted. They track the girl to a warehouse near the Puget Sound. The girl is being held by a mix of former Special Ops veterans in a very secure location in the basement. The team gains entry to the building, and fights off most of the resistance. The last member of the ops team retreats to the facilities showers with the girl, a pistol, and a block of C-4 attached to a dead-man’s switch.
    • Everything goes to hell when Verde tries to negotiate with him. The man refuses to budge, claiming that he has nothing to lose… his team is dead, and he can either set off the C-4(killing himself, and the girl, and possibly some of the party), shoot the girl (guaranteeing that he dies by their hand), or they can let him go… with the girl. Verde becomes annoyed with the man, and chooses option 4: He shoots both the man and the girl at point blank range with his Enforcer shotgun, killing them both instantly. The man drops the dead-man’s switch, setting off the C-4.
    • Miraculously (ie: several very good rolls later), none of the party is killed. When the dust settles, Billy Boy immediately jumps on Verde, incapacitating him with his stun baton. After a brief argument with the rest of the team, Billy Boy terminates Verde with two shots to the temple.
  • Taurus exits party.
  • Big Mac exits party.
  • Verde is killed.
    Mid-September 2061 – November 2061 – “Red Chrome Devil” (Redmond, UCAS)
(Very loosely based on the Shadowrun Module “Silver Angel”)
    • The team is contacted by ‘Saint John‘, a former peer of Juan Sanchez. He meets them at the Rubber Suit, and offers them a job. He also introduces two new members to the team – Taurus, and Arrow. They accept the job, which is a data insertion/data steal against a Mitsuhama facility in Redmond. They are to enter the facility, locate and extract a certain data file (known as “Silver Angel”), and then purge the secure system of all date using a tailored virus known as “Red Chrome Devil”. The run becomes complicated when the team is ‘made’ within seconds of entering the facility. After several running gunfights, the team escapes with the data, and turns it over to Saint John… Making themselves a valuable Fixer contact.
  • Arrow exits party.
  • Handsome Rob exits party.
September 2061 – “Fallout From the Comet”  – Seattle, UCAS
    • Sept 10th – the remaining team returns to Seattle to lick their wounds and lie low. Racial tension is at an all time high in the wake of S.U.R.G.E.
    • Sept 11th – the team finds out that Juan Sanchez has been murdered. His SURGE expressed itself while he was walking the streets, and he was beset upon by a small mob of people who, quite literally, tore him limb from limb. The team attends his funeral, and meets some of his business associates and peers. DC decides to ‘retire’ from the Seattle shadows, and announces to the team that she will no longer be running with them.
    • Sept: SURGE race riots erupt across the nation, hitting downtown Seattle and  Redmond hard. It takes several days for authorities to clean up the situation.
August 2061 – Early September 2061 – “Night of the Comet”  – Tokyo, Japan
(Loosely based on the run “The Family Jewel“, from the SR website )
    • Haley’s comet comes info view As the team is working out of Japan. The party is contacted by a local ‘friend of a friend’ or Dirty’s, who hires them for a simple ‘smash and grab’. The run to steal a supposedly unique, precious gemstone from a secure high-rise penthouse goes very smoothly, with no loss of lives.
    • After the run, the team decides on some R&R. They attend a ‘comet viewing’ party atop a downtown Tokyo high-rise. The shit hits the fan, when out of nowhere a select few of the hundreds of attendees collapse, writing in pain (some of the party members included). The afflicted are rushed to medical facilities, and are found to be among the first to be effected by a new phenomenon – Sudden Recessive Genetic Expression, or S.U.R.G.E.
  • Joshua Retires.
  • D.C. exits party.

    July 2061 – “2 Leagues Under the Sea”  – Bellingham, Salish-Shidhe
( Loosely based on the run “”, from the SR sourcebook Corporate Punishment )

    • The Team (Verde, D.C., Billy Boy, Wu, and Joshua) is contacted by a Johnson who hires them to infiltrate a small facility in the NAN lands north of Seattle. He provides them with transportation and credentials to get out of the country. Their goal is to plant a deep cover operative in the ranks of a science team that is pursuing one of the big payoffs from Dunkelzahn’s will. The scientists are researching (and deploying) an aqua-sphere on the ocean floor — a fully self-sustaining underwater habitat, suitable for human colonization. The team arrives, and successfully infiltrates the facility (and drops off their mark). However, while exiting the facility, they trip several alarms. A brief running firefight ensues, and the team must high-tail it back to Seattle.
    • Upon their return, they meet to pick up their payoff, and get a big surprise. Their plant may have been compromised… the Johnson has turned on his employer. Their new Johnson offers them a choice: Take the payoff now, and walk away (and be a loose end, that may need to be tied up), or go back in and extract her. The team wants nothing to do with the situation, and walks.
    • They decide that in order to escape the notice of both the angry corp, and a rogue Johnson, their best bet is to lie low out of the country. Dirty sets them up with a small ‘working vacation’ in Japan. They head to Tokyo, and have a few weeks of downtime.

May 2061- “Shadowrün: The Movie”  – Hollywood, Cal Free State

    • A fixer named “Agular” contacts the party for some work in sunny Los Angeles… Hollywood to be specific. Verde, D.C., Billy Boy, J. Doe, and Joshua are hired to impersonate bodyguards, and dig up information of Hans Cliber, the simsense actor who plays ‘Karl Kombatmage’. The team will be working for a man named David Hansen, a big time actor/producer who wants Cliber’s career destroyed in a big way. There’s rumor that the actor who calls himself ‘Hans Cliber’ isn’t the same man who made the character Karl Kombatmage famous… In fact, rumor has it that the real Cliber is dead, and this man is an imposter. Hansen wants that rumor confirmed. He believes that the original Cliber was killed on the set, and that there must be a ‘black-out file’… a piece of ‘snuff footage’… out there somewhere. They should also be careful of one of Cliber’s fellow actors, a man who goes by the name “Wu”. Apparently he is quite a skilled Adept, and has it out for Cliber in some way.
    • The team heads to Hollywood, and takes on their cover as ‘Cliber’s’ bodyguards. Cliber’s whole ‘running crew’ (the other actors in the film), are included in the protection, so the team is tasked with watching them as well. They do some research (and some observation) over the next few days and find that Cliber is definitely not who he seems, and that “Wu” knows all of the answers. The job comes to a head when Cliber tells Wu, in the presence of one of the runners, that he won’t live to see  the end of filming.
    • The team questions Wu, and decides that he is not a threat… in fact, quite the opposite. Wu knows Cliber’s secret. The team also comes to find out that the ‘actor’ who hired them is, in fact, producing this very film. It seems that he’s hiring the runners to dig up any evidence they can, so that it can be destroyed. The team accepts a second job from Wu: extract him before filming ends. They do so, by creatively faking his death, on set. The team then turns over what evidence they’ve found, and calls the job done.
  • Wu returns to Seattle with the group.
  • J. Doe exits party.
March 2061 – “Big Time in Beantown”  – Boston, UCAS
(Based on the run “”, from the SR sourcebook Corporate Punishment )
    • The team accepts a job in Boston from Juan Sanchez. After a first class flight cross-country, they meet their local contact who informs them that their target is a case approximately 3ft x 3ft x 5ft, and is stored in a secure wing of the DIMR building at M.I.T.& T.  Some digging on the character’s parts find out that the case is rumored to contain the Elemental Scrolls of Ak’le’ar, an artifact bequeathed to Hualpa in 2057, by Dunkelzahn’s will.
“To Hualpa, who has already achieved so much, I leave the Elemental Scrolls of Ak’le’ar. Though they are not our work, there is much wisdom to be learned from them. May your continued efforts to protect what others would destroy be successful.”
    • The party successfully acquires the scrolls (using the now famous ‘pudding’ method), and escapes with the box, and the scrolls. The team splits up, and is run to ground at a motel in Worchester by several unknown groups, among them a Wuxing strike team, a patrol of Knight Errant, and the local Yakuza.
    • The team is extracted, and hidden, by people working for an individual known as “Momma”. This Momma gives them some breathing room, and offers to help them out in return for a favor (to be determined at a later date). The team decides to stick to their guns, and deliver the scrolls to their Johnson. They do so, and then return to Seattle
  • Sureshot forcibly exits party.

February 2061 – “A Safe Bet is the Best Kind”  – Seattle (Pullyap), UCAS)
    • The run is simple, Dirty has info on the upcoming Urban Brawl finals locations. He’s arranging for a team to infiltrate each locations to do some scouting, and report back to him. The team heads to a location deep in the Puyallup barrens, enters the heavily guarded facility, and returns with reconnaissance information. Except for a few minor slip ups, the run goes well, and the team is commended.
January 2061 – “Cake Walk” – Seattle, UCAS
(Loosely based on the run “Milk Run”, from the SR sourcebook ‘First Run’)
    • The runners are contacted by some-time fixer Juan “Dirty” Sanchez, a Seattle club owner who operates as a fixer on the side. Juan is looking for new up and coming talent, and his eyes have settled on several new players in Seattle: D.C. (a former street racer, turned rigger), Verde (a Hermetic Mage raised on the streets of Seattle), J. Doe (a ‘Face’ man out of Denver), Billy BoySureshot (a self styled, gun-slinging cowboy), and Joshuaa (an unknown). He arranges a meeting and recruits them to be part of his new team. He promises them that if they stick with him, he’ll take them to the ‘Big Time’.
