Run 21 – Lethal Weapons

Date: November 11th, 2076
Location: Los Angeles
Mr. Johnson: Mr. Johnson (Unknown)
Team: Fender, Rex Dart, Steps in Shadows
Run Type: Data Retrieval
Overview: The team is hired to infiltrate a secure facility in downtown LA, retrieve the facility’s research, and destroy the copies left behind.

The team is contacted by Ganef, who has a job lined up for them. He sends them to a meet with a Johnson at ‘the Surly Goat’, a local sports bar. Johnson arrives, and lays out the job: He wants them to break into a high-security facility controlled by Ares Macrotechnology, which is located in the Knighthawk Building in Downtown LA. Their assignment is to steal any data related to a certain magical research project, destroy Ares’ copies, and then deliver the stolen data. He’s got a man on the inside who’ll help with the infiltration.

The team accepts, and begins planning immediately. With  some information and support from Johnson’s contact, they decide to disguise themselves as caterers to access the building with their gear.  Their plan is solid, and they eventually gain entrance to the lab.

They soon find the desiccated corpses of the scientists assigned to the lab, along with information on what they were researching– previously unknown, incredibly destructive spirits and how to harness them for military and security purposes. During their investigation, the runners are ambushed by these spirits and forced to defend themselves…

BORDER TENSIONS FLARE

//Archive/Newsfeeds /recovered//

Frontline Reporter [AP]—11/10/76

BOGOTA, FS. Tensions have skyrocketed at the UN today, when Amazonia representative Paiva Acuoa boldly denied Aztlan accusations of sheltering the wanted criminals behind tempo and of providing safe haven for the laboratories and growing fields of the Ghost Cartels. Interpol IDEA top official Majia Wright presented the agency’s findings in a closed-door session with top UN officials. After the meeting, UN officials held an open forum with member countries. Multiple countries testified on the growing tempo problem within their borders, including the Pueblo Corporate Council, UCAS, Germany, Kenya, France, and Great Britain. Amazonia was noticeably absent from those testifying.

Aztlan’s representative made a motion to create a joint Interpol-UN task force to seek out those responsible for the production of tempo, including taking military action against growing fields and known laboratories. The other member countries were cautiously supportive of the motion, although CAS and the PCC both counseled for a peaceful resolution, asking Amazonia to voluntarily work with Interpol to eradicate the Ghost Cartels. Amazonia denied any association with the Ghost Cartels and said its own internal police forces were investigating rumors of Cartel laboratories manufacturing tempo within its borders.

UCAS made a motion to seize the assets of any and all corporations involved in the transportation and distribution of tempo. The Corporate Court will hear the motion in next week’s special session.

Run 20: Terminal Entry

Date: October 14th, 2076
Location: Los Angeles
Mr. Johnson: Mr. Johnson (Unknown)
Team: Fender, Rex Dart, Steps in Shadows, Woodstock
Run Type: Data Retrieval
Overview: The team is hired to clear out an old dead drop and return the contents.

The team is hired by an unknown Johnson to retrieve an item from an old ‘pre-war’ dead drop.  Dead drops are locations where couriers leave physical evidence they want to get back to their handlers. The drop itself is a public trash bin in an old sports complex. The only hitch is that the complex is now a part of the bay, and is quite likely under water. Johnson helps out by giving them a tracking signal that they can hone in on once they’re close.

The team takes to the water, and quickly tracks down the location with the assistance of a few drones. The water in the area is murky, and full of silt. The team dons sonar goggles and makes the dive to a few hundred feed below the surface. After dealing with some local predators, they track the packages location…. and everything goes black. When the team wakes up they’re still at the stadium, but it’s daylight and there’s a game going on!?

They quickly surmise that something magical is afoot, and decide that the best course of action is to track down the case. After a cloak-and-dagger-like chase through the arena, they corner their quarry in a parking garage, but he’s found help! A quick gunfight, and they have the case. Shortly thereafter, they’re back underwater, and in the ‘real’ world.

After contacting Johnson, he instructs them to open the case. When they do, they find a strange flat object inside. It’s an old media disk, positively ancient, a blue square a little under nine centimeters on each side.  The Johnson needs the data on that disk and is willing to triple his fee to get it. The offer stands if they can get him the data within 24 hours. The only way to access the data is with a device that can read the disk. One place in the city has such a device—the Los Angeles Science Museum. One of its most popular exhibits is on the history of computing. The drive is connected to an ancient desktop computer.

While they scope out the exhibit,  they notice they are being watched. The leader of a rival team, an elf named Blackwing, is also casing the computer, and he’swilling to cut a deal. If they get a copy of the data, they’ll go their own way, and everyone can return to their employer happy. The Johnson doesn’t know about the deal, and there doesn’t have to be any bloodshed. The team accepts his offer, and retrieves the data with the assistance of his Technomancer.

STC REFUSES TO BAN TEMPO

//Archive/Newsfeeds /recovered//

Cheyenne Eagle tribal newsblog—10/10/76

CHEYENNE, Sioux Nation: The Sovereign Tribal Council announced today that despite all evidences for the addictive potential of tempo, it won’t ban the drug. David Blacksilver states in an interview that “we will not patronize our tribal members. They should be given the chance to see their surroundings as our shamans perceive it. It would be wrong to bar them from that experience.” He further said that “we count on the responsibility and rationality from each and everyone using the drug”. The STC is also campaigning for legit commerce and explicit labeling of the drug like any other pharmaceutical. It will prosecute illegal distribution and trading but not the use.

NYCMediaGroup Broadcast [UCAS]—10/2/76

(Video Feed Unavailable. Playing back audio only)

Talking Head: I’m standing in front of the historic Manhattan Development Consortium building on the Upper East side where, today, Neo-anarchists attacked an MDC meeting just as it started. Now, as you know the MDC building houses all of the City bureaucracy and monthly meetings of the MDC planning commissions take place in the upper floors of the high rise. Today’s meeting was special, as it was an annual function meant to disseminate information to shareholders.

The apparent target of today’s attache was Mr. Douglas Quinn, a security executive at CitiGroup.Mr. Quinn was… and is scheduled to deliver a speech at today’s banquette, and from reports several perpetrators attempted a full, frontal assault on the building behind me. However, NYPD Inc.’s quick thinking and actions prevented them from gaining a foothold, and stopped the attempted abduction.

Back to you, Bob…

DOWNTOWN BLOODBATH

Sunview Media broadcast [HRZ]—09/1/76

LOS ANGELES, PCC: Yesterday’s Baltimore Tower’s Massacre has put Governor Escalante in the hot seat. Anti-drug groups have been asking some tough questions— like how the powerful and corrupt South American drug lords were able to arrange a meeting in the prominent new Baltimore Towers. An anonymous source has confirmed that Governor Escalante owns a 3% share in the building. Sources within the struggling Pueblo Drug Enforcement Agency have also confirmed that a full scale tempo lab was operating on the top floor. Protests staged in front of City Hall have called for the resignation of the Governor. With this scandal, on top of the recent rise in street crime, will the Governor’s popularity come crashing down?

A statement by Governor Escalante, issued by his press office at 3 AM this morning: “Last night’s violence at the Baltimore Towers has been determined to be the result of in-fighting among dangerous drug lords. Fifteen people were murdered in cold blood, including a heroic Towers security guard. Those responsible for his death as well as the deaths of fourteen unidentified others are still at large. Images of these criminals will be broadcast immediately following my announcement. I have authorized a reward of 50,000 nuyen for information that leads to the capture and arrest of any of these individuals. These criminals are dangerous and presumed armed. Do not attempt to approach them. Contact the PCCP if you see them or if you have any information.

Run 18 – The Expendables

Date: August 23rd, 2076
Location: Neo-Tokyo
Mr. Johnson:
Team: Carbon Copy, Fender, Rex Dart, Steps in Shadows
Run Type: Wetwork
Overview: The team is tasked with disposing of a snitch that’s causing issues for their hosts.

The team returns to their high-class rental a bit worse for the wear, and relaxes for a few days. They re-acquire their confiscated tech (where available), and heal up. A few days later, Sacristán calls on them with another quick job… capture and dispose of a loose end that’s in police custody. She needs Vladimir (the last surviving Bratva witness from last week’s Tempo sale) acquired and put down.

The team reaches out to Cygnet, and finds out how he’s being transported. From there, it’s a simple matter to tail the car, and take it out. The team snatches Vladimir, but during the op, they get a call from Sacristán, who’s in a panic…. the Wanibuchi-rengo has mounted an assault on their location. The team needs to get there ASAP. Carbon Copy quickly knocks him out, then puts a few bullets in him, and they dump his body in an alley. When the team arrives back at their condo, it’s a wreck. Th e Kodachi-gumi is noted for its violence, and the sudden and massive raid on the Olaya delegation’s Neo-Tokyo quarters is nothing but. Scorch marks and small fires mark the ruins of the foyer. Dead bodies lay sprawled where they died. Henry Uribe is bleeding as he explains what happened. Sacristán and Jorge Rhys have been captured, and hehas been recalled to Los Angeles. He plans to leave as soon as possible.

The team fills in for his lost security, and they quickly move to a more secure location. From there, Uribe negotiates passage on a noon sub-orbital, and dispatches a team of ‘hitters’ to dispose of his lost assets. The team leaves for L.A. shortly thereafter. When they arrive, Uribe’s driver is more than happy to pay them off and releases them to enjoy their hardearned nuyen.

INTERPOL PRIORITY INTERAGENCY ALERT

Review security footage from Chek Lap Kok airport graciously ceded by Knight-Errant has identified Henry Uribe (aka Enrique Uribe; The Diplomat) among arrivals two weeks before preceding the Kowloon Incident. His presence in the metroplex is believed to be directly connected to the current crisis. IDEA urges all agencies to adjust surveillance and data analysis to take into account this new data. You will find biometric data and reference files attached.

IDEA is coordinating international and intercorporate investigation of tempo trafficking, and your cooperation will be greatly valued by both Interpol and your sister agencies tackling this problem.

Uribe is a registered citizen of KondOrchid, SA, a double A corporation based out of Guayaquil (Ecuador) and a former Colombian senator. He is also a known middleman and principle negotiator for several South American drug cartels and well-connected in diplomatic circles and high society in several major nations. He is believed to be a leading figure in the Olaya Cartel and a blood relative of Jaime Salazar, president of KondOrchid another primary in our investigations—per the dossier forwarded by Aztechnology Corporate Security to all networked agencies on 30 June.

Keep in mind that Uribe has successfully challenged and won criminal cases against him in six different countries; various agencies have failed to prosecute charges of transnational criminal conspiracy, corruption, and influence trafficking in the courts. Uribe is wanted for questioning in Aztlán, Korea, and Great Britain for suspected criminal association. There are no current outstanding warrants. Any surveillance undertaken must be discreet.

Your cooperation is appreciated,
Majia Wright

IDEA Division Head
